on hillcrest's future: planning commission approves plan hillcrest
strong stance for growth and sustainability for hillcrest
hey everyone,
big news out of the san diego planning commission that's bound to reshape our beloved hillcrest!
this past thursday, the san diego planning commission gave a firm thumbs-up to some bold new plans set to bring a whole lot more life (and people) into our neighborhoods. (agenda of meeting) they voted 4-0, and let me tell you, it was a statement of intent that we're not just sitting back in the face of our housing crisis.
commissioner matthew boomhower really brought the fire, saying he's "simply not going to be dissuaded" by the anti-housing crowd. and that's the kind of grit we need to see more of, especially as we push for growth that respects our community's rich history and its future.
it's clear some folks just don't see the big picture. at the meeting, there were voices saying san diego's got enough housing, believe it or not. they even talked about 'de-densifying,' which pretty much means telling new folks and the next generation to find somewhere else to call home. thankfully, those views didn't win the day.
and let's not forget about our lgbtq+ cultural heartbeat here in hillcrest! the lgbtq+ cultural district was approved! these plans include hillcrest’s first-ever protections for what they’re calling "legacy tenants." that's about keeping the soul of hillcrest’s lgtbq+ businesses and institutions alive, not just building new walls.
so what can you do?
stay engaged, show up, and speak up. the city council's going to take this up again for final in july, and every voice in favor of thoughtful, inclusive growth can make a difference. we've got a chance to lead the way in building a city that works for everyone.
get involved in the new community planning group. the community planning group for hillcrest is having elections for its officials, you can read more here and register to vote or run to be an official of the uptown community planning group. you can make a direct impact on the future of hillcrest right here.
let's keep our community vibrant, inclusive, and thriving. go hillcrest!
what do you think? leave me a comment below and sound awf!
until next time,
edgard
thanks for the update
Wait, Assemblyman Chris Ward doesn't have much control over any of this, why would someone want to contact him?
